Reflections toward the New Year

Amanda Boehm

When the holiday season rolls around, I start to think about all of the things I haven't accomplished.

BUT... then I remember to recall all of the things I HAVE accomplished!

Ends and beginnings have such an interesting impact on our minds, and I think it's because we believe we need to succeed at things to live successful lives. But what is "success" to us?

When the leaves change colors and fall to the ground, the entirety of their experience is not taken into account. What was the impact of those leaves in spring and summer? What energy did they provide to the tree? What haven or safe space did they offer to the random animal passerby?

In my consideration of the start to a new year, it's served me well to remember the little wins throughout the year. Sometimes, the smallest of positives, when combined and totaled, can outweigh the negatives of our lives.

So start recalling even the most seemingly minor of victories and recognize that life is indeed a marathon, not a sprint. :)
